“The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” -Pablo Picasso
The Old Shell Gallery, located at the corner of M-134 and Meridian in Cedarville, is dedicated to providing a place where we can all wash the dust of daily life off our souls by celebrating the artistic creations of our community. The gallery gives local artists a venue for displaying and selling their work, but in doing so, it serves as a peaceful gathering place for artists, art lovers, and anyone who wishes to stop in for some old fashioned camaraderie, surrounded by beautiful handmade objects. Work on display at the gallery includes paintings, photography, ceramics, papier-mache sculpture, metal sculpture, blown glass, fiber art, handcrafted and lathe turned wood, handmade soap and jewelry.
Whether you are a local resident or a visitor to our beautiful area, we encourage you to stop in and quietly enjoy the wonderful variety of work on display. Member artists volunteer their time to keep the gallery open and are always happy to chat with you about the work of our organization. The gallery also serves as a hub for a variety of Les Cheneaux Area Artisan Cooperative sponsored activities that promote local arts and crafts. These include: Aldo Leopold Activities at the Old Shell Gallery, Knit in Public Day Knit In, Cedarville Night Walk, Music and Art Dockside, Art in the Park , and Holiday Art Tour.
