June Maurer: Fabric Art/Quilting
fjmaurer@sbcglobal.net
Hometown: Dearborn, MI

How did you become an artist? (Briefly describe your journey):
I was always interested in all kinds of art but was too busy raising kids and teaching school. So I learned how to quilt from my grandmother and spent many years quilting. It wasn't until I retired that I started experimenting with fabric art.

Why did you choose the Les Cheneaux Area as a place to reside and make your art?
We retired here because of the beauty and peacefulness. I have the time to do the things I enjoy.

What inspires you?
Being outdoors and taking pictures of nature. I use my photos to create the fabric art.

Describe your art in one sentence:
I machine or hand-quilt pictures either painted or formed by material.

When you are not making art what are you most likely doing?

I enjoy kayaking, camping, working in the yard, and reading.

What is your favorite sandwich?
I like subway sandwiches: chicken with spinach, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers.
