The Old Shell Gallery was our member-operated, all local art gallery housed in a former Shell Gas Station at the corner of M-134 and Meridian in Cedarville. Dedicated to providing a place where we can all "wash the dust of daily life off our souls" by celebrating the artistic creations of our community, the gallery gave local artists a venue for displaying and selling their work. It was gathering place for artists, art lovers, and anyone who wishes to stop in for some old fashioned camaraderie, surrounded by beautiful handmade objects. Work on display at the gallery includes paintings, photography, ceramics, papier-mache sculpture, metal sculpture, blown glass, fiber art, handcrafted and lathe turned wood, handmade soap and jewelry. Member artists volunteered their time to keep the gallery open, and the gallery was a hub for a variety of Les Cheneaux Area Artisan Cooperative sponsored activities that promoted local art.
In 2020, concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic prevented members from opening the gallery for the season. Later that year, the "Old Shell" building that we rented for the cooperative gallery was sold by its owner, and will reopen as a different business!
The Gallery Committee and our members are currently considering a new space and new ventures for the 2021 year. Stay tuned while we work on how to move ahead!
And thanks so, so much, for your support and love of our wonderful gallery that brought light and life to a long-vacant building in the heart of our community. It was an amazing ride, and we were glad you were along for it!
